Please let me know what you think.  Heck, let me know HOW you think!  Many people make art like this;  I think that's awesome.  There are definitely enough bottle caps for everybody.  The image to the left was taken during the solar eclipse 2017... did you SEE all those little moon shadows?  Our senses are excellent at making many decisions simultaneously.  I like to test that notion and have some fun with it.  Less is more.

I hope is to hear 'whoa' when you see my art, that maybe you think about what you are throwing away.  That perhaps it could be used again.  And, that our most sincere legacy at this point are huuuge mounds of garbage.   Take your garbage to the dump yourself, it's probably closer to your house than it used to be.

Our garbage gets sorted here in Portland OR,  but probably 75% of it goes to the mounds.  You are paying for the  disposal of  manufacturer's packaging, likely over 600 dollars a year, almost $2 a day.  Search 'Zero Garbage', 'Buy Nothing Day'.  I am trying to challenge the 'disposable' mindset.  People and objects should be able to decompose, or be recycled, right?

It seems that the little plastic seal inside a bottlecap deters conventional recycling. Hence, make art.  Folks decorate houses, floors, bars...but that requires lots of epoxy to completely embed them.  I don't like to mess with epoxy, so I use water based sealers.  Three thin coats of clear acrylic floor sealer on a thin plywood substrate keep it light enough for wall hanging.

The sound of pouring through a big bucket of bottlecaps,  looking for a certain color, comforts me in the wee dark hours of winter. Well,  that and a lot of Earl Grey, goose down hoodie parkas, and hot saunas.

Though I never took to knitting or weaving, this is similar.  I adhere to the grid created by the caps  and usually paint the backdrop a single color.  The background is visible in the final product intentionally.

Note, this art fades quickly in direct sunlight becoming just sort of a shiny panel with some pastel bits of color.  Keep it out of sun/humidity if you want to maintain it, or let it change!
